At Basil, our mission started with something deeply personal. Each of us has friends and family who live with food allergies or dietary restrictions. We have watched how stressful dining out becomes when every meal requires scanning the menu, questioning the server, and hoping nothing is missed.
On the flip side, some of us have also worked in restaurants and understand the pressure of serving diners safely. From high-end dining rooms to neighborhood spots, chefs and servers shared the same message: tracking every allergy and restriction is overwhelming, and mistakes are more than inconvenient—they can be dangerous.
That is why we built Basil. It is an AI-powered co-pilot that removes confusion for guests and eases the burden on restaurant teams. After interviewing restaurants across the spectrum, one takeaway was crystal clear—this isn’t just helpful, it is necessary. Basil empowers diners to eat with confidence and helps restaurants focus on what they do best: creating outstanding food experiences.
